The Sultana Education Foundation is one of the largest providers of professional development programs for teachers in the Chesapeake region. Sultana’s professional development programs improve teacher content knowledge, model innovative pedagogical practices, and demonstrate strategies for incorporating experiential education into classroom-based lesson plans. The Foundation’s teacher training seminars are generally offered as part of distinct initiatives in partnership with other non-profit organizations and centers of higher education. Reaching students through teacher engagement throughout the Chesapeake region as well as youth programming provides a holistic experience and enables Sultana projects to reach a large audience.
The presentation will focus on the planning, implementation and evaluation results of partnership programs such as F.L.O.W. (Facilitating Learning through Outdoor Watershed) Education a multi-faceted program engaging students and teachers in 21st century investigations of watershed concepts using real-time geospatial technology. Overseen by the National Geographic Society and supported by a grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), F.L.O.W. provides dynamic learning experiences for students and teachers throughout the Chesapeake Bay Watershed.
