Challenges to Designing and Implementing a Landscape Approach

We face at least three broad challenges in institutionalizing large landscape conservation:  (1) clearly articulating and demonstrating the conservation, business, and governmental outcomes we want to achieve through a multi-scale approach to resource management; (2) systematically describing the assessment, planning, and on-the-ground project work that has to be done in order to achieve these outcomes; and (3) organizing ourselves to efficiently and effectively complete this work.  The first presentation in this session will introduce these three challenges and offer a set of “working hypotheses” for how practitioners might begin to approach them.
