This session will update land trusts on new planning processes and planning tools that integrate data on conservation resources and energy infrastructure. Land trusts all over the United States are being confronted by expanded activity to develop new energy sources and an extensive network of roads, pipelines, electric transmission lines, and other infrastructure. Whether the source is renewable or traditional fossil fuel, the potential to impact natural and cultural resources, including resources on public and private conservation lands, is significant. Over the past few years, substantial public-private planning collaborations have developed planning tools to avoid impacts and to evaluate mitigation. This session will provide an overview and assessment of these planning tools.
