U.S. EPA’s Healthy Watersheds Program protects freshwater aquatic ecosystems by working with state, tribal, and other partners to implement strategic conservation approaches based on condition, location and vulnerability. Healthy watersheds conservation strategies are built around the system dynamics of watersheds including landscape connectivity and watershed processes such as hydrology. The goal of the Program is to maintain healthy watersheds and increase their numbers over time.  EPA provides technical assistance and funding to partners to assess, identify and protect healthy watersheds through Clean Water Act programs and in coordination with other aquatic ecosystem protection programs.
