Biographical Sketch:
Arnold Randall is the General Superintendent of the Forest Preserve District of Cook County and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the nation’s oldest and largest forest preserve system. Since Randall’s appointment to the post in December 2010 by Forest Preserve District President Toni Preckwinkle, the District has streamlined its operations to better serve the public, expanded its resource management department to most effectively implement its mission of preserving and protecting the natural lands and beauty of Cook County, and is developing master camping and recreation plans to introduce new recreational opportunities for the region’s residents. Geographically and philosophically at the center of Chicago Wilderness, the Forest Preserve District of Cook County is dedicated to protecting nature and enriching life. The District has been a leader in Chicago Wilderness’ Leave No Child Inside initiative, working to help all children experience the health benefits of being outside in nature. Recognizing that collaboration amplifies our conservation impact at a regional level, as well as on a national scale, the Forest Preserve District also represents Chicago Wilderness in expanding national dialogs on the benefits of collaboration in urban conservation. Before his appointment to the Forest Preserve District, Arnold Randall served as Director of the Office of Civic Engagement at the University of Chicago, worked as Commissioner of the City of Chicago’s Department of Planning and Development, and served in a number of roles with the Chicago Park District. He is active in numerous civic and professional organizations.
