Biographical Sketch:
Lenore Beyer-Clow has been the Director of Policy and Planning at Openlands since 2005. She plans, implements, and coordinates the Openlands’ policy, legislative and advocacy agenda. She also manages projects to protect water quantity and quality and advocates for the protection of land and natural resources throughout the region. Lenore spearheaded the effort to create the first national wildlife refuge in our region, Hackmatack on the Illinois – Wisconsin border and works on connecting the creation of a viable regional local food system to farmland protection. Lenore is currently the President of the Board of the Illinois Environmental Council. Previously, Lenore was the executive director of the Environmental Defenders of McHenry County, a citizen advocacy organization, where she worked on environmental policy and education issues, including protecting rivers and wetlands, groundwater, sustainable land use, natural landscaping, and waste reduction. Lenore has a BA from Oberlin College and an MBA from the University of Illinois.
