Biographical Sketch:
Eric Benson manages the Geographic Information System (GIS) program at Mount Vernon. His duties also include overseeing conservation efforts to protect land visible from the mansions famous vista, known as the viewshed. He has earned a Master’s in GIS from The University of Maryland College Park and has a background in surveying, cartography, information technology, and local government. Since starting with Mount Vernon in early 2013, Eric assists the preservation team in their research, disseminates geographic information via maps and the web, and is developing new geographic based historical research. Future projects include a partnership with George Washington University to recreate an online interactive version of the 1932 George Washington Atlas. Eric created and maintains the Wine Seal Project website.
