Biographical Sketch:
William H. Street is the Chief Executive Officer for the James River Association (JRA) with offices in Richmond, Lynchburg and Williamsburg and programs throughout the ten thousand square mile James River drainage basin. Mr. Street is responsible for overseeing all of JRA’s efforts to promote conservation and responsible stewardship for the unique natural and historic resources of America’s Founding River. Mr. Street manages JRA’s core programs: River Advocacy, James RIVERKEEPER, Watershed Restoration, Environmental Education and Outreach. Since Mr. Street joined the organization in 2005, JRA’s operations have expanded to include the James River Ecology School, two regional offices, a professional staff of seventeen and a budget of $1.5 million. Under Mr. Street’s leadership, JRA has led successful initiatives related to water quality funding, stormwater management, large scale restoration projects, sturgeon restoration, water trail development and environmental education. Since 2005, Mr. Street and JRA have received numerous awards including the Gerald McCarthy Award for Leadership in Environmental Conflict Resolution, the Center for Watershed Protection Stoneroller Award, James River Green Building Council Leadership Award, Fly Fishermen of Virginia Taylor Turner Conservation Award and the Governor’s Environmental Excellence Gold Medal Award. Prior to joining JRA, Mr. Street worked for the Chesapeake Bay Foundation for ten years where he served in multiple capacities, most recently as the Director of Watershed Restoration. Previously, Mr. Street had worked for a private consulting firm, Malcolm Pirnie, Inc. in Newport News, Virginia as well as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Duke University Wetland Center, and the Institute for Environmental Negotiation at the University of Virginia. Mr. Street has received a Master of Environmental Management with a concentration in wetland ecology from Duke University and a Master of Environmental Planning room the University of Virginia. He also has received a Bachelor of Science in Commerce from the University of Virginia.
