Biographical Sketch:
Greg Wathen earned his B.S. degree in Natural Resources Management from the University of Tennessee at Martin, and a M.S. in Wildlife and Fisheries Management from the University of Tennessee. After a brief stint as a research biologist with the National Park Service, he joined the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency in 1987. With TWRA, he has held several positions, including Special Assistant to the Director under former Executive Director Gary Myers, and Chief of Wildlife. Since January 2011, Greg has been the Coordinator of the Gulf Coastal Plains & Ozarks Landscape Conservation Cooperative (www.gcpolcc.org), a landscape-scale conservation collaborative comprised of 20 federal, state, and non-governmental organizations, and covering a 180 million acre landscape of the Mid-South region, from Florida to Texas to Missouri, and including western Tennessee. The mission of the Gulf Coastal Plains and Ozarks Landscape Conservation Cooperative is to define a shared vision for sustainable natural and cultural resources in the face of a changing climate and other threats; design strategies to achieve that vision; and deliver results on the ground through leadership, partnerships, contributed resources, evaluation and refinement over time.
