Biographical Sketch: Governor Martin O’Malley appointed Joe Gill Secretary of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources in May 2013. Joe took over the agency’s leadership after having served 3 years as DNR’s deputy secretary and 14 years as the agency’s Principal Counsel. After beginning his professional career as a Law Clerk with the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, Joe moved into private practice in 1983. In 1987, Joe joined the Maryland Office of the Attorney General, serving first as an Assistant Attorney General in Contract Litigation, and later as Deputy Counsel for the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Joe holds a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, and an A.B. in Liberal Studies from the University of Notre Dame.
