Since its creation by Congress in 1984, NFWF has become one of the world’s largest conservation grantmakers. It works with both the public and private sectors to protect and restore the nation’s fish, wildlife, plants and habitats.  NFWF supports conservation efforts in all 50 states, U.S. territories and abroad. Grants – more than 12,600 since its founding – are made through a competitive process and awarded to some of the nation’s largest environmental organizations, as well as some of the smallest. NFWF focuses on using the best science to get results. Financial commitments to its conservation mission since its founding now top $2.1 billion.

NFWF currently works with 14 federal partners and more than 50 corporate and foundation partners. Its IDEA (Impact-Directed Environmental Account) program manages more than $100 million in mitigations and settlement funds to create positive conservation outcomes.

David O'Neill, Vice President of Conservation Programs, will provide examples of NFWF strategies to bring diverse parties to the table including individuals, government agencies, nonprofit organizations and corportations to protect and restore landscapes for both wildlife and people.
