Philanthropic Partner Approaches To Land Conservation

Friday, October 24, 2014: 10:20 AM-11:50 AM
Ampitheater (Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center)
Entities with philanthropic capacity, including private foundations, government-affiliated non-profits and corporations, often play a key role in land conservation initiatives on various scales, ranging from site-specific to regional to an entire watershed. Strategies include funding of NGO capacity, support for land purchases, collaborations, scientific research, communications and advocacy. Approaches may focus on watersheds, urban regions, climate resiliency, recreation or others.

A diverse panel has been assembled to explore examples of the role of philanthropy in helping drive conservation outcomes on a landscape scale. The panel includes representatives from a large and a not-so-large foundation, a govenment affiliated independent non-profit and (under discussion) a philanthropic arm of a major corporation.  Using examples, both site-specific and otherwise, the panelists will explore a variety of strategies, outcomes and lessons learned to illustrate how philanthropy can complement and leverage the efforts of public agencies, property owners and others to achieve outcomes on a landscape scale.
