Biographical Sketch:
Dr. Michael (Mike) Schummer is a Scientist with Long Point Waterfowl (a non-profit conservation, education and research organization focused on waterfowl and wetlands issues of the throughout the Great Lake region), Adjunct Professor at the University of Western Ontario, Adjunct Professor at SUNY- College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY-ESF; appointment 1 Sept 2014), and Visiting Assistant Professor of Zoology at SUNY-Oswego where he teaches Ornithology, General Ecology, Waterfowl Ecology, Wildlife Techniques, and Winter Ecology. A graduate of Paul Smith’s College, SUNY-ESF, Southeast Missouri State University, and the University of Western Ontario and previously employed by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and Mississippi State University, Dr. Schummer has broad interests in wildlife science, natural resources, and international conservation efforts for wildlife. His specialization is the study and conservation of ducks, geese, and swans with a current research focus on effects of large-scale conservation and management practices on wetland habitats and waterfowl, influences of climatic variability on annual distributions of North America waterfowl during the non-breeding season, impacts of environmental contaminants on Great Lakes waterbirds, behavioral response of waterfowl to disturbance throughout their annual cycle, and human dimensions of wildlife-related activities.
